When you drive your vehicle you are probably not thinking about a flat tire and being left on the side of the road. Preparation ahead of time is essential and knowledge of changing a flat tire is great, but you also need the right tools. Every new vehicle starts out with a spare tire, tire jack and a tire iron. These are the tools you need to get back on the road.
Before you head out, know where your spare tire is, if it has a security key and that your spare tire is in good condition. It will be no good to you if it has lost air or has been damaged. Good rule is when you check the pressure of your other tires, check the spare as well and keep it aired up.
If you have a flat tire that is not too bad (not ripped apart) you could also try filling it with a can of tire inflater or a sealer to plug a leak. Keep these important items with your tools for changing a tire as they can save you the trouble of changing out a tire and give you enough leverage to get to a mechanic or tire shop.
